The Minister of Health, Wellness, and New Health Investment, Dr. Irving McIntyre along with other officials from the ministry, this week visited several possible sites for a new health and wellness center in the Cottage constituency.
This was done in a bid to decentralize health and to develop a type-3 health and wellness center in the Cottage Constituency.
“We’d rather have a Type 3 Health and Wellness Center somewhere in the Cottage Constituency. Many times constituents from Cottage Constituency end up in Portsmouth for medical treatment even though there is a health center in their constituency,” McIntyre said.
He continued by saying that “We’ve been discussing it with MMC and we’ll discuss which of these sites are better.”
Dr. McIntyre further informed that the Clifton Health Centre would be kept as a satellite Health Centre which handles the Clifton and Tucari areas.
He said the objective is to prevent the high percentage of patience flocking to the Nurse Olivia Douglas Health and Wellness Centre in Portsmouth.
“The majority of the population is in Toucari and the second is in Cottage,” said McIntyre. “If we can have it somewhere whether its Cottage or Touccari or Savanne Paix – this will also prevent the high percentage of patients that would go to the Portsmouth Health Center,” he concluded.
This will also be the 13th Health and Wellness Center in Dominica.
